Integrating Offerchat live chat with Pidgin

Update (9/10/2025): Along with the release of the new Offerchat dashboard and widget, configuration settings to integrate your Offerchat account with Pidgin has been changed. We are yet to add that information in your own dashboard view. For now, please contact us through the chat widget below or email our Support Team (support at offerchat dot com) for the correct settings for your account.

How to Merge Offerchat with Pidgin

Step 1: Open Pidgin on your computer

Step 2: Click Accounts or press Ctrl+A

A new dialog box will appear.

Step 3: Click the Add button.

Step 4: Set to XMPP

Click Protocol and select XMPP from the dropdown menu.

Step 5: Connect to XMPP

Fill out the username, domain and password fields. You will find the necessary information in your Offerchat dashboard.
To do this:
- Open a new tab and go to the Offerchat.com/login
- Access your dashboard
- Click your avatar to open the menu
- Go to Accounts > IM instructions
- Copy and paste the unique username, password and domain from the dashboard to the Pidgin screen (pictured below)

Step 6: Advanced configuration settings

Click the Advanced button and set Connection security to “Use encryption if available” from the list of dropdown options.

Step 7: Click Add to finish

Congratulations! You have integrated your Offerchat live chat account with Pidgin. You will now be monitoring visitors on your site, receiving and replying to their chats through the Pidgin instant messaging desktop client.

Update (4/10/2025): To avoid any conflict on the display name on the widget and to ensure the widget on your site displays the name you want to appear, set a display name on your Account settings in the Offerchat dashboard. See this post for step-by-step instructions.
