The Skeptics’ take on Online Chat Support

Online Chat Support is one of the more recent innovations in the world of online retailing. Naturally, it has come under much scrutiny by experts who aim to assess its performance and utility in the contemporary internet sales scenario. While there is no dearth of people who hold Live Chat Software and its effectiveness in high regard, those dissatisfied with it are hard to come by. Nonetheless, there is a section of skeptics who doubt the very concept and feasibility of live chat software for websites. However, the arguments put forward by them can be easily countered, as shall be in the lines that follow.

Many people raise concerns regarding the tangible outcome of installing live chat software on retail websites. They believe that though with its enabling, there is likely to be an increase in sales, this rise shall be marginal. Thus, there shall be no extra overhead profits if the installation costs are taken into consideration. However, this is a rather narrow and flawed perspective. Statistics have shown that with the provision of online chat support, sales rise perceptibly such that the final turnover is greater than before, at least for efficient, well-organized businesses. Moreover, while installation charges may have to be incurred initially, running costs shall reduce simultaneously with the customer service apparatus being scaled down.

Another school of thought is that people do not require such nature of service in the first place. It is assumed that this software brings in queries from people who may not be seriously interested in buying, thus leading to greater traffic to customer care personnel, which for the large part, may not even yield any augmented results. This view, though, does not take into account the fact that a lot of people who may not browse with an intent of buying, may end up doing so, at a future date, in which case, prior interaction with customer care shall give them confidence in the product and trust in the company’s operations.

The bottom line is that while skeptics may doubt the functions and efficacy of live chat software, logical reasoning and statistics suggest otherwise. However, retail businesses may only realize this when they make use of it themselves.
