What are proactive chat triggers

Last Updated: March 6, 2025 at 10:47 am UTC

Proactive chat triggers are conditions that activate a chat initiative and, thus, sends a proactive chat message to an individual site visitor or shopper. The Offerchat live chat system has algorithms in place that automatically matches a given or set condition (trigger) with an individual visitor on the website.

Triggers or conditions can be set according to visitor time on website, time spent on a webpage or URL, or when a visitor reached a certain page on your site. Take a look at these examples:

Sample trigger condition:

Visitor spend 30 secs on the homepage

Sample proactive chat message:

Hi there! Feel free to take a look around and try out some features. Let me know if you have questions.. I’m online

When a condition matches a visitor, the trigger is activated and the live chat widget initiates a chat with a visitor by expanding and displaying a pre-set chat message on the individual visitor’s screen, along with a notification sound alert. It gives the customer the impression that an agent has reached out to him or her and has started a conversation. When the visitor replies, the chat conversation can then be carried on by the live chat agent.

Important Note: Only main account owners and users with administrator roles can designate a chat trigger in the live chat settings in the dashboard.
